How You Can Help Your Child Be Ready For School, Homework, And Tests
Feed them...
Our brains need fuel to operate. A good breakfast is very important every morning. Students who eat a good breakfast have better focus and attention.
Give them lots of water...
Encourage your child to drink a lot of water. Send them to school with a water bottle.
Set good sleeping habits...
Kids need a minimum of 8 hours of sleep every night. Good sleep will let their minds be refreshed and sharper.
Build confidence...
Praise your child often for the things that they are doing well. Show off their work in your home. Tell your child to always try their best. Let them know that a good education is important to you and your family.
Exercise, play...
Physical activity releases "feel good" hormones in the brains, calms nerves, relieves tension, and heightens alertness. Encourage your children to spend at least 15-20 minutes a day in active physical exercise.
Role model and lend a helping hand...
Always be positive and let them know that you believe that they can do it. Ask teachers and counselors how you can help in school and at home. Encourage your child to take school and school work seriously. Participate in school activities.
Keep stress levels low...
Some stress is positive, but stress can also be overwhelming. Help your child learn stress management techniques, such as:
- Positive self talk: "I can do this" use humor to ease tension
- Avoid being rushed
- Take slow, deep breaths
- Think about long and short term goals
